Sleep paralysis



Sleep paralysis is a temporary inability to move or speak while falling asleep or upon waking which often results in fear.

Sleep paralysis is brief and not life threatening, but the person may remember it as haunting and horrifying, so no need to panic .





FACTS ABOUT SLEEP PARALYSIS !!!

* Sleep paralysis is not life-threatening
* Sleep paralysis can cause anxiety
* Sleep paralysis can happen alongside other sleep disorders, such as narcolepsy
* Sleep paralysis is not a serious risk
* Stress, jet lag, sleep deprivation and panic disorder may trigger it
* There may be hallucinations.
* It is not physically harmful and it can be prevented

Sleep paralysis is a parasomnia, or an undesired event that is associated with sleep. It happens just after falling asleep or upon awakening, in the time between waking and sleep.


Causes:

* Narcolepsy
* Irregular sleeping patterns
* Sleeping on your back
* A family history of sleep paralysis
* Insomnia
* Clinical depression, migraines, obstructive sleep apnea, hypertension, and anxiety disorders.
* Sleep paralysis may be genetic


Signs and symptoms include:

* Feeling a weight on their chest or a choking feeling
* Inability to move the body when falling asleep or on waking
* consciousness 
* Inability to speak
* having difficulty breathing
* sweating
* having headaches, muscle pains, and paranoia
* Hallucination




In the past, it was believed that demons caused sleep paralysis by holding people down or sitting on their chest. This was often due to hallucinations, which are a common symptom during sleep paralysis because the brain is still in a dream state. People have reported seeing ghosts, demons and other strange apparitions while experiencing paralysis. The feeling of slep-paralysis is not caused by supernatural beings.
