How to read and understand faster

Reading and not assimilating is disheartening and has force many students to give up on school or stop going to school. Studying for hours and yet getting a bad grades in school can be discouraging and that is why i have taking my time to talk about practical approach on how to read and understand fast.

I have carefully listed ways on how to read and understand faster below :-

  • : Choose a quiet environment
To read and understand faster, you have to make it a habit to study in a quiet environment devoid of noise and distractions. To further avoid distractions, you could switch off your phone or silent it and turn off internet connection in order to stay away from social media. Studying in a quiet environment increases your concentration and helps you assimilate the material you study.

  • : Eat good diet and not junks
The role of meal or diet in assimilation cannot be overemphasized. Eating good foods and not junks helps us assimilate better. Some researcher says , a diet which is high in sugars, fats as well as processed foods in early childhood may result to lower IQ, they suggested eating eggs,  healthy snacks, good fats such as avocados,  oily fish like sardines, and dark chocolate if you are a chocoholic. This helps you assimilate rather than eating junks.

  • . Note Taking
Most student prefer to take note with gadgets because its faster and fun.But using a pen and paper will help you learn and comprehend better. Researchers at Princeton University and UCLA found that when students took notes by hand, they listened more actively and were able to identify important concepts. Taking notes on a gadgets, however, leads to mindless transcription, as well as an opportunity for distraction, such as chatting, email, gaming etc.

  • . Form acronyms
One of the most effective and useful tool in building a formidable memory base is by forming acronyms.During the early school life you will remember that most of the lessons you learn in the early years of life in the Kindergarten school were in form of songs or poems and till today you can still remember some of this lessons by simply singing the songs or poems. These acronyms could be formed from the first letters in a word or group of letters in sentences or paragraphs. But it is important to advice here that these acronyms should be as simple as possible and should form familiar words, statements , music etc.

  • . Teach someone else or group of people
If you teach someone else the material or task you are trying to grasp, it will help you to speed up your learning and makes you remember more. When you know that you are going to teach someone or group of people what you have study, the expectation changes your mind-set and help you to engage in more effective approaches to learning than those who simply learn to pass a test or exams.

  • : Study in group and teach others what you have learned
Reading in a group is another way to read and understand faster . By studying in a group, you have the opportunity of being correct about things you didn’t notice were wrong hitherto. Discuss what you have learned with friends, teach them or get taught by them. This method particularly helps a lot and speedily increase learning and assimilation.

  • . Have enough sleep
Sleeping between two learning sessions greatly improves retention.Have a good night sleep to rest the brain - It is very important to give the brain the much needed relaxation by having good undisturbed night sleep before embarking on an intellectual task such as examination. It is a common behavior for people especially students to study hard on the eve of an exam. The human brain needs a minimum of six hours (6 hours) of night sleep to achieve good relaxation; denying your brain this rest runs down your memory.

I believe if you follow this practical approach carefully , there will be 100% increase in the way you read and assimilate .
